Tragedy: Amy Pain was found dead in her bed by her father
Only days ago it emerged that one in four GPs have treated a patient suffering unpleasant side- effects after buying restricted or banned drugs online.
A survey found 85 per cent of family doctors want online pharmacies to be more tightly regulated, as those running them often have no professional qualifications. Mr Bowen backed the calls at Miss Pain's inquest. He said: 'I am concerned by the apparent ease that drugs which are normally only available by prescription can be obtained on the internet. 'I intend to draw the facts of this tragic death to the attention of the appropriate authority to see what action can be taken to restrict that access, especially to young and vulnerable people.' Miss Pain, of Monmouth, Gwent, was described as an 'intelligent, creative and loving person'. But her father said she could sometimes be reclusive and was happier shopping online than going out. The inquest heard that she had been treated for anxiety and anorexia since she was 11 years old, and began self-medicating at the age of 18 by buying drugs through an internet mail-order company. She was found dead in her sleep on October 12 last year. Mr Pain said: 'We tried to monitor her and brought it up with health professionals who would come to visit her. 'Amy had a stomach problem the day before and said she had not been sleeping well. We became concerned when we didn't hear her upstairs in her bedroom the next morning. 'I found her in bed apparently asleep - she looked very peaceful. But we realised something was wrong and called the emergency services.' Gwent coroner Mr Bowen yesterday recorded a verdict of misadventure. He told the inquest in Newport, South Wales: 'It is likely that when the drugs didn't help the pain or sleeplessness Amy took some more in the mistaken belief it would give her quicker relief. 'There was no thought of ending her own life. 'Amy had stopped taking prescribed medication and thereafter self-prescribed by the internet.'

Any site that offers prescription drugs without a prescription is dangerous,' said Mr Thompson.
'And so are the drugs that they sell. If you buy them, you're playing Russian roulette. The last pill may not have killed you, but maybe the next one will.
'Investigators report finding pills made from rat poison, cement, floor polish, chalk, rice flour, lead paint and concentrations of real active ingredients that are so low or so high as to be dangerous.
'Many of these pills are made in dirty backstreet laboratories in places like China or Afghanistan'
